The Soul Forge
In Praise of The Wild Spirit
In Praise of the Wild Spirit places the drive to reconnect with our wildness as an act of rebellion emerging within an age-old consciousness war between the Domesticators (corporate, political, religious, and technological systems of control) and the Wild Spirit. This book provides an in-depth exploration of how to systemically work with the modern impulse toward rewilding and a concise definition of exactly what domestication entails.
Civilization has been converting humans, animals, and the very landscape itself to become carriers of the domestic for thousands of years. This conversion actively suppresses our wildness. The consequence is the numbing of a vividness that leaves modern life feeling dull, and the homogenizing of the raw aliveness that is our birthright. It does this for one purpose: control. By using what the author calls anti-domestication technology, a set of perspectives, principles, and practices, we can wage an immune response against this invasive threat to our innate sovereignty, thus reclaiming vitality, sovereign living, and a deeper sense of connection to our inherent nature and deep-time Ancestors.
Drawing on his experiences from living and working at a wolf sanctuary in the high-desert wilderness of New Mexico for a decade, the author draws a mythic parallel between the wild wolf and the domestic dog, and that of our deep-time, hunter-gatherer Ancestors and modern humans. The core mythos that carries us through the work of rewilding relies on the wolf, dog, and wolf-dog mix as power animals. The call of the modern person drawn to this work is in becoming a wolf-dog, a unique mix of wild and domestic traits.
In Praise of the Wild Spirit bends genre by artfully mixing together myth, poetic freedom, magic, science, storytelling, and pragmatic non-fiction. The result: a beautifully written tome that is both a treatise on rewilding and a tactical manual that shares practical actions directly adaptable to life as a modern person. This is a field manual for resistance, written for those who sense something feral stirring within them.

A Deep Ache & Visceral Re'membering'
Deep within most of us, there is an itch, an ache, a sense of wrongness: this visceral knowing that something is 'off' in how the modern world shapes us to be.
We feel the invisible pressure, like psychic chains, immobilizing us and pushing us to behave, conform, comply.
The truth is, we are being domesticated & herded, and we have been for the last few thousand years.
Yet every cell in your body remembers something older, an inheritance that reaches back into the deep past.
Something wild.
Free.
This is the call of The Wild Spirit and the Deep Ancestors...
Meanwhile, as a people:
We feel torn between the people we are expected be to in order 'survive' within modernity, and the one our ancient memories were born to be.
We feel the effects of domestication in our bones: in our exhaustion, our numbness, our longing for something 'real'.
We feel the 'cage of civilization' closing in, even when our lives 'looks fine' from the outside.
We feel a hunger for something vivid that no productivity tool, mindfulness hack, or weekend retreat can satisfy (because most of them suck anyway).
Our instinctual core has been weakened…our attention fractured…our sovereignty eroded.
This is not personal failure.
It’s the impact of a system designed to domesticate us.
And if you feel these sensations, you’re not imagining it my friends.
You’re re'membering' something deep, ancient and feral...that feels constrained.
For hundreds of thousands of years, humans lived as indigenous and tribal creatures, in other words, wild humans.
We were closer to wolves then, than to the obedient domestic beings we have become.
But you were born into a world that no longer holds your ancestral context.
You were shaped by the domestic current, yet still carry the genes, psyche, and soul of something older.
This book presents the Wolf-Dog as the symbol of our time.
A creature of two worlds, neither fully wild nor fully domestic, and therefore unpredictable, sovereign, and unassimilable.
'In Praise of The Wild Spirit' is told in the backdrop of a metaphor:
The domesticating force as a pathogen (viral or parasitic), rewilding as an immune response to it, all held within the power animals of the dog and the wolf.

A 3 Part Rewilding Protocol: Becoming the Wolf-Dog
Inoculations: Building Adaptive Immunity to the Domestic World
Modernity acts like a pathogen that infiltrates instinct and bends perception toward obedience, fragmentation, and spiritual amnesia. Inoculations teach you how to expose yourself to the domestic current in controlled, conscious ways so your system learns to recognize its effects. You build adaptive immunity by studying its tactics, sensing its influence on your attention and desire, and developing the ability to stay lucid inside its pressure. This phase strengthens your capacity to perceive the subtle forces shaping you, instead of unconsciously absorbing them.
Prophylactics: Strengthening Innate Immunity Through Daily Practice
This is your first line of defense. Prophylactics cultivate non negotiable habits that fortify the organism itself. These are the practices that restore the instinctive intelligence of the body, rekindle animistic perception, stabilize attention, and rebuild sovereignty from the inside out. You learn how to protect your wildness through rituals, physicality, connection with land, cycles, spirits, and the deep ancestral pulse. This phase creates resilience that makes you less vulnerable to domesticative forces before they even reach you.
Wolf-Dog Medicine: Integration and Transformation in the Liminal Space
This is where the work becomes lived. Wolf-Dog Medicine guides you into the threshold where the wild and the domestic meet inside your psyche. You learn to love the dog in you without submitting to it, and awaken the wolf without rejecting the world you were born into. This integration creates a new kind of human who can navigate civilization without being absorbed by it. The wolf-dog becomes unpredictable, sovereign, relational, strategic, and self possessed. This phase teaches you how to move through the world as a creature of two contexts who cannot be herded and cannot be broken.
